Details: Come and join us as we take the pulse of nature in the wonderful Upton Towans local nature reserve. Butterflies are a vital part of the ecosystem as they are both pollinators and part of the food chain. They are in decline, under threat, indicating nature is in trouble. We will be specifically recording for The Big Butterfly Count using two methods: Recording for 15 minutes in one place and walking for 15 minutes recording what we see. We will enter these records into the iRecordbutterflies app.and so into the national database. We will also learn the various ways we can record butterflies from’ as and when’ ad hoc recording to weekly structured surveys and everything in between. Whether you have an allotment, garden, just a balcony, hedgerows and fields or a nature reserve on your doorstop, there is a way for you to get involved.
Butterflies will only fly in sunny, or at least bright, weather. If the day turns out heavy overcast we can still explore the teeming life of the Towans. Come prepared with wind/waterproofs, sun hat and sun cream and sturdy walking shoes/boots, depending on the weather. In the event of pouring rain we will cancel. Please check ‘friendsofthetowans’ and ‘dunesrecordinggroup’ whatsApp sites for up dates.
Meet 11.00am and finish around 2.30pm. bring a packed lunch and plenty to drink if it’s hot.
