Practical conservation session – Gwithian Green

We’re heading back to the hidden gem that is Gwithian Green.  It has a great range of habitat types and we’ll be working on a mix of projects: We’ll be removing some small blackthorn plants from an area of the grassland near the Elm copse and carrying out some footpath maintenance. We will also do some simple 10 minute insect pollinator surveys.  These Flower-insect timed counts are part of the UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme and provide valuable information on the how the UK’s pollinator populations are changing. Pollinating insects play a vital role in our environment, ensuring that many of our crops and wild plants are able to set seed and produce fruit.

Please note: this session runs 10am – 2pm.

General information for practical conservation sessions:  We recommend wearing stout footwear and clothing suitable for working outside in the exposed environment of the Towans.  Do bring a spare layer, hat and full waterproofs and sun cream (if it’s going to be sunny). We supply biscuits, please bring your own hot/cold drinks and lunch.

Please book in advance so we can make sure we bring enough tools & biscuits and know who to contact if we need to cancel the session.
