Meet some of the amazing array of moths that live on the dunes as we discover what’s been caught overnight in the live moth traps
We’ll be joining moth enthusiast, Chris Vincent, as he opens up the live overnight moth trap to see what’s been caught. Last year we were wowed by the amazing array of moths that we uncovered from the trap. It’s a great way to get up close to some of the wonderful wildlife that we don’t often see and yet is virtually on our doorstep.
After the moth reveal, we plan to do some simple insect pollinator surveys (approx 10am to 12 noon). These simple 10 minute Flower-insect timed counts are part of the UK Pollinator Monitoring Scheme and provide valuable information on the how the UK’s pollinator populations are changing. Pollinating insects, which include moths, play a vital role in our environment, ensuring that many of our crops and wild plants are able to set seed and produce fruit.
We’ll meet at 8am by the kissing gate on to Mexico Towans from the path through Phillack Churchyard. We’ll then walk out together to meet Chris and the moth traps.
Please note – this event is outdoors and will involve a short walk on a grassy path over the naturally undulating terrain of the sand dunes.
