Practical conservation session – Upton Towans

We’re returning to Cornwall Wildlife Trust’s Upton Towans nature reserve to continue with the invasive and non-native plant removal we’ve been working on this year.  We’ve made great progress taking out the Buddleia bushes in the area behind the cement works, but still have some smaller bushes to take out.  If left, the Buddleia will outcompete the native dune plants and will start to dominate the dunes here.

There is also a small patch of Montbretia to remove (another invasive non-native plant) and some cuttings to burn, left from the work to uncover the blast wall – part of the old explosives works.

This session runs 10am – 2pm.

General information for practical conservation sessions:  We recommend wearing stout footwear and clothing suitable for working outside in the exposed environment of the Towans.  Do bring a spare layer, hat and full waterproofs and sun cream (if it’s going to be sunny). We supply biscuits, please bring your own hot/cold drinks and lunch.

Please book in advance so we can make sure we bring enough tools & biscuits and know to contact you if we need to cancel the session.

Date of Session: 31/03/2026
