Waxcaps and other dune fungi.

Date: 21/09/2025 @ 10:00 am

Details:

Come and help us find out just how rich the Towans grassland is as we survey for this threatened group of fungi. Waxcaps, with their shiny brightly coloured caps are rather like jewels,  they come in a variety of colours and shapes, and are relatively common in The Towans. Unfortunately they are declining elsewhere through habitat loss and changing land management and are now considered threatened. We will follow PlantLife’s Waxcap Watch methodoogy. Our results will also help to inform local dunes management.

We will explore St Gothian Sands Local Nature Reserve and Godrevy Towans. Be prepared for any weather, wear sturdy footwear and bring a packed lunch. We will finish around 2.00pm.

Directions: Meet at Gwithian Green car park in Gwithian village. Look out for the Friends of the Towans flag.
